Hi Sadie, if you have an electric stove, a flat bottomed carbon steel wok is a must. For gas stoves, flat bottomed woks or round woks can be used depending upon how they sit on the cast iron grate of your gas stove. All you need is a simple no-frills carbon steel wok with a wooden or even hollow handle. Take a look at our What wok to buy post and browse around online for a style that you feel is most comfortable using.

Hi mama heather, there are lots of choices online for wok rings for electric stoves. Personally, for an electric stove, I would go with the steel or stainless steel ones.

I am wondering where to purchase a wok ring for 14″ wok? I have an electric stove and it always burns on the bottom. Thank you in advance for any help.

I bought a Joyce Chen Classic Series 14 inch uncoated carbon steel wok with lid and birch handles from Amazon a couple of years ago. Today at Amazon, it’s $45 and some change. I followed this site’s directions for seasoning and care. Once the tedious process of seasoning is over (necessary just like with a new cast iron pan) it is perfect. I love it

Hi jeannie, our favorite wok is the large one we use in our photo shoots and videos. It’s definitely a luxury having a large dedicated wok burner and using a 20″ round bottomed wok, but if you can, you’ll definitely be spoiled.
